Report on “H&H Run for Celiac Awareness – Half Marathon” & “Celiac Camp” organised on 11th December 2016 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at New Delhi.
On Sunday, 11th December 2016 a half marathon was held at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium New Delhi on spreading awareness on celiac diseases by Celiac Support Organisation in partnership with Hope & Helping Hands Society. Hectic preparations were done by team CSO to make the event a huge success. Some of the event partners were – Apollo Hospital, Yakult, Ralaxo, Luminous, Celiac Society of India and Dr Dang’s Lab.
More than 1100 young and old people registered for the half marathon fun walk in which participants ran for 21, 11 or 6 Km. The participants registered for the run online and were given kits, T-Shirts and electronic timers. There were elaborate arrangements for safety by Delhi police and medical emergency by Apollo Hospital New Delhi.
Despite the cold, misty morning the participants both young and old many of whom were doctors and young professionals were full of enthusiasm and zest for the run.
There was Zumba for warm up and 21 Km was flagged off at 6.30 am followed by 11 and 6 Km at 7.00 and 7.30 am respectively. As the runners started returning, they were cheered loudly by the celiac children by waiving balloons on the side of the running track.
The second part of the event started at 8.00 am which was a celiac camp. This camp was specially organised to cater to the queries/medical requirements of the celiac children and families. This included a primary health diagnostic, doctor’s consultation and anti tTg IgA testing done by Dr Dang’s lab. Nearly 250 children along with their families attended the camp. The celiac camp started with the registration of celiac children and families. Post registration the children were distributed T-Shirts and gluten free snacks.
Painting competition, fancy dress competition and recitation was held for the children. Each and every child was given a prize, a gift hamper and toy. Later the children danced away happily on the zumba floor.
Dr Anupam Sibbal – Director, Apollo Hospital, Ms Ishi Khosla, Dr SK Mittal – President, CSO and other CSO executives distributed the prized to children.
